About us
In 1989, JLG Architects emerged in the Midwest as two-person firm founded by Gary Johnson and Lonnie Laffen. With a “Design for Life” approach to architecture, their integrity and vision became the firm’s catalyst for national growth in leadership, peer education, and client connectivity. Today, JLG is a national pacesetter and home to over 200 employee-owners across 9 offices. JLG is proud to be in the country’s top 50 Best Places to Work (Inc. Magazine), and 50 Most Admired Companies (MSN Money). Through collaborative solutions, nurtured relationships, and environmental stewardship, we take a lifelong approach to design with unified goals at the helm: increase clients’ well-being, brand, bottom line, and sustainability.

JLG’s Andrew Budke doubled the fun with back-to-back tours of the Gorecki Alumni Center, walking the ND APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators) and Northland through the sustainable design that led to North Dakota’s first LEED Platinum-certified building. Andrew showed them how the Center is outperforming national benchmarks in net zero design, lowering operational costs, and creating a healthier workplace and campus. UND’s Alumni Center is a catalyst for bold change, actively demonstrating sustainable design that educates and inspires!

JLG, ICS and Mahnomen Schools have officially broken ground on its addition and renovation! Within the new addition comes a new life for their school, including Indian studies, art rooms, locker rooms, home-like restrooms, and so much more. Here, JLG is working to reflect the region's culture, infused into the design with meaningful circular elements that honor the past and prepare students for the future – getting one step closer to welcoming students in the fall of 2025. #Groundbreaking #Mahnomen

This week, JLG, H+U Construction, and City of Eagan broke ground on the new Eagan Art House! The existing Eagan Art House, serving the community for over 25 years, has recently seen tremendous program growth. The new sustainably designed art center, expected to complete construction in 2025, will cultivate community connections and inspire artists of all ages to "Live Creatively." #BuildSomethingGreat #Groundbreaking #EaganArtHouse #LiveCreatively

Last month, our team dressed up and bet it all on ‘An Evening in Monte Carlo,’ hosted by Mortenson at the Anne Carlsen Center’s (ACC) Fargo Gala. JLG has proudly worked with ACC for nearly a decade, a strong partnership that has led to the new Jamestown campus, opening June 6th! This Gala was an unforgettable evening, reminding us of the many wonderful families that ACC has impacted since 1941. All proceeds from this event support the services ACC relies on to live out its mission, making the world a more inclusive place where independence is a gift to all.

Last week, Shauntel, Todd, and Mark found the brightest Friday night lights in Fergus Falls! JLG was proud to be part of the pink glitz and glam as a sponsor of the Lake Region Healthcare Foundation Gala, helping 'Luminate Hope' and raise funds for the latest in 3D mammography at Elbow Lake and Fergus Falls radiology departments. Cheers to shining a light on early cancer detection and treatment. ✨ #GalaGlam #LuminateHope #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #MammogramsMatter

It’s Throwback Thursday, a perfect time to rewind and celebrate last week’s 8th Annual JLG Capstone Awards at North Dakota State University! Each year, NDSU’s 4th-year Architecture and Landscape Architecture students compete to make it into the top three significant design solutions. Congratulations to the 2024 Capstone Winner, Madeline Knoll ($1,500), along with runners-up Emma Clark ($500) and Enya Weinandt ($500)! Thank you to the NDSU faculty and our own Ty Pritchard, Tracy Jordre, Matthew Dunham, and Matt Torgerson, who were on hand to hand over big cash prize checks to three talented students.
